You may qualify for a discount with Packitt under several circumstances:
• If the apartment or complex you’re moving into or out of has an existing contract with our moving company
• If you are an active-duty service member
• If you are a single mother
• If you are an elderly individual
• If your storage unit provider has a contract with us
Be sure to mention your situation when requesting a quote so we can apply any eligible discounts.
This depends on your specific situation. Hiring professionals like Packitt means your entire move is handled by experienced teams, taking the stress off your shoulders. If you choose to move on your own, you’ll be responsible for the heavy lifting, renting a truck, coordinating help, and managing the entire process. Understanding the differences can help you decide which option best fits your needs.
Set aside anything you or your family will need on moving day and keep it with you. This typically includes snacks, toilet paper, paper towels, phone chargers, a change of clothes, toiletries, and your kids’ favorite toys. Be sure to also keep medications, important documents (like birth certificates and Social Security cards), and valuable or sentimental items such as jewelry, credit cards, and banking information. Pack these essentials in a separate box or bag and bring it with you to your new home.
Most moving companies can provide an estimate over the phone. However, in some situations, an in-home visit may be needed to give a more accurate quote. You may require an in-home estimate if any of the following apply:
• Your home is 1,500 square feet or larger
• You have large or bulky items (such as safes or pianos)
• There are narrow hallways, doorways, or staircases that could make moving difficult
• Parking a 26-foot truck near your home may be challenging
• You are planning a long-distance or out-of-state move
Use a tape measure to find the length and width of the room, clearing any obstacles for accuracy. Multiply the length by the width to calculate the square footage.
If you don’t have a tape measure, you can estimate using your feet. First, measure the length of your foot with a ruler. Then, walk heel-to-toe across the room to count your steps. Multiply the number of steps by your foot length, then divide by 12 to convert to feet. Repeat this process for the width of the room, and multiply the final length and width to estimate the square footage.
• Make a list of local moving companies you want to research
• Request a quote from each one, using their official website or phone number to avoid third parties and get the best pricing
• Check customer reviews to understand each company’s reputation
• Confirm that each mover is properly licensed and insured
• Ask about scheduling details, including delivery timing and whether the same crew handles loading and unloading
• Review pricing structure, cancellation policies, and any required deposits
• Choose the company that best fits your specific needs and moving situation
There are certain items movers cannot transport, including prescription medications, gas- or engine-powered equipment, animals, plants, flammable materials, and highly valuable or sentimental items such as cash, jewelry, insurance documents, and birth certificates. For a complete list of non-allowable items, it’s best to check directly with your moving company.
